Mella Heartmade

Imperfect ceramics
hand- and heart-made.

At Mella Heartmade imperfect ceramics are made with soul. Bringing the handicraft ceramic process closer to those who have no knowledge about it, creating awareness about the clay as plastic substitute and enhancing its qualities, are our goals.

The heart-made pieces are unique

Our pieces are unique and imperfect by belief, as we do not use the throwing wheel, just our hands. At Mella Heartmade we embrace the unusual and imperfect, and we trust the singularity of each process and result. No two pieces are alike and finally each piece acquires its own personality. This is the reason that our pieces are alike, never identical.

Why ceramics?

We believe in handmade, high temperature stoneware ceramics, imperfect and handcrafted, decorative and functional at the same time. Ceramics for daily use, microwave and dishwasher safe, as contents are as important as the container.

For me, the best sensation is creating versatile ceramics, to be used for different moments and occasions, in an organic and personal way.

Professional stoneware ceramics

Imperfect ceramics. Perfect process.

Cerámica Imperfecta.
Proceso Perfecto.

We select one of the following stoneware clay bodies: Prai, BT, Praf, Prgi or Porcelain

We knead the clay until we have a basis to create from

We start the craft process, creating by hand, without a wheel

Once the piece is leather hard it is polished and profiled

The process of bisque firing, about 8 hours in the kiln at 980º C

We sand the piece and with a sponge we remove the remaining dust

Glazing is used in different colours, adding slip and pigments

Another 8 hours in the kiln, at 1280ºC to fix the colour of the piece

The fusion of fire, clay and colour achieves surprising finishes
